Romancing the Stone

Restoring the Prophetic Edge

Recently, during a time of prayer, I heard the Lord say “Romancing the Stone, restoring the prophetic edge”.   I knew there had been a movie years ago called titled Romancing the Stone and having not seen it I began to research what the scenario was.  Upon reading it I was highly intrigued, first because I immediately saw the prophetic significance and secondly because I’m a writer working on a book in which the theme prophetically parallels part of this scenario.  My closest brother in the Lord once quipped that I can find something prophetic in a blade of grass; an accolade that I respectfully accept!

The movie is about a writer named Joan who receives a package containing a map to a treasure; a baseball size emerald called El Corazon (The Heart) and then finds out that her sister is being held hostage and the kidnappers want the map as ransom.  Upon her arrival in Columbia to rescue her sister she meets an opportunist named Jack who agrees to help her.  Once Jack discovers the map he convinces Joan to first pursue the treasure; then, giving the worthless map to the kidnappers, she would have the treasure and her sister.  The kidnappers discover their plan to get the treasure first and the wild pursuit for The Heart begins.  Upon finding The Heart a mêlée ensues with the bad guys and The Heart falls into a pit of crocodiles.  Jack quickly apprehends the crocodile who had ingested The Heart but discovers that Joan and her sister are in danger so he decides to leave the then valuable crocodile to ensure the safety of the women.  The villain falls into the pit; once knowing that the women are safe, Jack is off again in pursuit of the emerald carrying crocodile.  Thinking that she would never see Jack again, Joan returns to New York and publishes a best seller about her experience.  Then one day she comes home to find Jack, wearing crocodile skinned boots waiting for her in a sail boat he purchased with the proceeds of the sale of the emerald.

I love it when God prophesies through Hollywood! The Heart, the green emerald, illustrates restoration of life.  There is a clear message for the church as we enter into 2008 that says we must determine to apprehend the treasure; the fullness of our redemption.  It’s time and it’s a choice.

In the movie, Jack pursues what had been carried off by the crocodile, the crocodile represents sin and iniquity carried over from past generations.  Jack’s name actually means redeemed and represents the redeemer and the redeemed.  Jesus, our Redeemer, overcame first in the Garden, solidifying His purpose and destiny in Himself, in His own heart, and then on the cross redeeming all that was lost.  The drops of blood He sweat from His forehead in the Garden f Gethsemane say to us that the battlefield of the mind; the lies, confusion and complacency of the enemy regarding our purpose and destiny has been overcome. But, like the disciples who were a short distance away from Him in the Garden we fail to see it because we’re asleep, overcome with the cares of the world so we, the redeemed, fall short of walking in full restoration.  Jack had to kill the crocodile to retrieved the stolen treasure and then made boots out of it.  He overcame and walked in his victory!  We overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony.

Joan, whose name means wise, received the map and was convinced by Jack to first pursue the treasure. Before we can rescue the kidnapped sister, the church, we must have a revelation of what has been redeemed within ourselves.  As believers we must come to a place where we experience a personal intimacy with the Lover of our soul in the secret place of our heart where we must go alone with Him.  This is an experience beyond salvation where we discover the fullness of the redemption He purchased for us and the reality of His eternal living presence in our lives.  Without this we will never walk consistently in the power of the cross nor will we be fully convinced of our own calling and walk in it to its full potential.  All of us receive an invitation, a map that leads us to that precious treasure inside our heart, where there is full restoration of life, but many settle for less than what was purchased for them because they give up in the process of fully apprehending that place when the battle becomes too great or they are too preoccupied with busyness and even ministry, outwardly focusing on “doing’ rather than inwardly “becoming”.  The wise will first become and then, from that place of life, they will do the work of the kingdom.

For thousands of years there has been a battle going on, in the lives of God’s people, for the full revelation of the redemption of what was lost in the Garden of Eden.  In Matthew 21:18-22, Jesus declared the full redemption of all that was lost when he walked by the fig tree that only had leaves and bore no fruit, declaring that it would never bear fruit again.  He did this because Adam and Eve used fig leaves to cover themselves after they sinned in the Garden of Eden.  Jesus, the second Adam, declared death and life to that fig tree; first, that the fruit of sin that brought self focus, shame and eternal separation would never be produced again; second, that its inability to bear fruit in season because of the curse would be reversed.  (I have more about this restoration in my book)

Romance is the true identity of your love and brings out the real you.  It is only discovered in the heart and can only come from the heart.  It has been defined as mysterious and strangely beautiful.  This is why the battle is so great for that abiding place within.  It keeps us hidden behind fruitless fig leaves so we never confidently step into our true identity because we’re outwardly focused.  We are to be a prophetic people, living out a prophetic romance, from the heart, with the King of Kings.  Unlocking and revealing the mystery and beauty of His identity in the earth.

The true prophetic lives from the heart and looks into the heart, not the externals, and sees the true identity, the true potential and is a constant living reminder to that fig tree that it has been forbidden to bear fruit that creates spiritual blindness to the fullness of life.  It is also a living declaration of the redemption of the curse, bringing life to the one that is not able to bear fruit in season to see the fullness of restoration.

I want to encourage you to start this year off with a determination to apprehend the revelation of the full restoration of life and that inner place of abiding.  I’m declaring that 2008 will be a redeeming of time for you and is your year to discover your true identity and the real you!
